Cancer patients to benefit from long-awaited oncology ward

The newMoruya District Hospitalbuilding will include an oncology treatment centre,renal outreach services, visiting oncology and renal specialists, a cancer care nurse and a haemodialysis treatment centre.

A NSW Southern Area Health spokeswoman said, without the support of the Moruya Cancer Carers, the new unit may have never been built.

“The donations raised by our community mean that the new unit is state of the art, with equipment and added features that will improve the service for staff, patients and carers,” she said.

The recent wet weather had delayed landscaping works and the completion of the drop-off car park.

Staff are compiling a time capsulefrom the old building, which will be buried onsite.

Narooma couple Ron and Tralee Snape began fundraising for a new unitafter Mrs Snape was diagnosed with cancer several years ago, launching a grassroots campaign involving many in the community.
