Carolynne has been busy preparingto take part in the ride, in a strong show of support to her sister Amanda Marshall, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013.

An employee at the MacPherson Smith Nursing Homein Stawell, Ms Johnston could never have imagined the level of support she would receive from her work colleagues and manager Alison Fischer.

“The support has just been amazing and I can’t thank everyone enough,” she said.

Pam Franklin had been busy making large homemade biscuits and taking them into the Nursing Home to sell for $1 each. Her campaign was to raise funds in support of Carolynne’s 200 kilometre ride to conquer cancer in October.

The result of Pam’s baking efforts was the handingover of $700, which was raised injust three and a half months, to Carolynne on Wednesday.

Carolynne said support from within the wider community had also been overwhelming.

The National Hotel has jumped on board and will be holding a fundraisingevent on Saturday, September 19 with a live band‘Crome’.

The entry fee will go towards Carolynne’s fundraising goal, so members of the public are urged to attend and support thecause.

Carolynne said a raffle had also been conducted, with strong support from various Stawell businesses.

“I wish to sincerely thank Sneek-A-Peek, Neilly’s Cafe, Pickers Market, Patrick Street Medical Clinic cafe, MSRC and Cathy Ryan of Natimuk on allowing me to have our Fostervillians raffle in their businesses,” Ms Johnston said.

The raffleprize winners wereJ Knight, C Gorrie, A York, C Linton andV Johnson.

By taking part in the Ride to Conquer Cancer once again this year, both Amanda and Carolynnewish to increaseawareness and instill cancerresearch’s significance in theminds of communities andgovernment bodies, to ensurean increase in funding.

All money raised from the ride will go to the Peter McCallum Cancer Centre.
