Chipping Norton ‘chop shop’ raided

Police officershave charged aman and a woman, following their investigations into an alleged car re-birthing operation in Chipping Norton.

The investigation began inApril 2014, after police allegedly recovered a stolen vehicle at a mechanical workshop on Barry Road, Chipping Norton.

In May 2014, Roads and Maritime Services investigators allegedly found a number of re-birthed vehicles with links to the same mechanical workshop.

The vehicles were seized and underwent forensic examinations.

TheState Crime Command’s Property Crime Squad established “Strike Force Denny” to investigate the matter.

At11.45am yesterday(Wednesday,September 9), officers from theState Crime Command’s Property Crime Squadarrested a 36-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman at the mechanical workshop.

Police also searched the shop and seized a number ofitems that will undergo forensic examinations.

The man was charged with facilitate organised car rebirthing activity, 11 counts of deal in proceeds of crime, and two counts of carry on the business of a repairer on unlicensed premises.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Thursday,September 10).

The woman was charged with three counts ofdeal in proceeds of crime.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court on September 30.
