Father, son injured after prison assault

Police are investigating after a group of prisoners assaulted a father and son in the cell block of the Loddon Prison yesterday.

The 45-year-old father was taken toSt Vincents hospital inMelbourne, sustaineda broken jaw and injuries to the left eye socket.

His 23-year-old son sustained less significant injuries having his two teeth knocked out.

Both men are serving undisclosed sentences at the prison.

The two prisoners were assaulted by an unknown number of prisoners.

Crime Investigation Unitfrom Bendigo anduniformed police officers from Castlemaine attended the scene with Macedon Ranges CIU.

The Macedon Ranges CIU have since takencontrol of the ongoing investigation into the altercation.

Macedon Ranges Detective Sergeant Stephen Cole said they were reviewing CCTV footage.

“We are, at this stage, unsure of how this happened,” he said.

“We are talking to prisoners and will be interviewing the victims.”
