Lake Keepit Excursion

Fifty Year 5 students from Bellingen Public School, accompanied by Mrs Head, Ms Tarling, Max Storm (SLSO), and two parent helpers, Shannan Stockton and Tom Denman, waved goodbye to families and staff as they boarded the bus to Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre for the annual five day camp.

During the week at camp the students participated in various outdoor and indoor activities and games such as archery, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, giant swing, team initiatives, trivia night and mini Olympics. They spent the week experiencing how it feels to step out of their comfort zone in an unfamiliar environment.

These camps build resilience and teamwork. Students were expected to organize, assist, support and collaborate with each other to solve problems and reach their personal and team goals. They were able to find creative solutions to problems, hit targets, safely cross the lake in a sixman canoe, demonstrate their groovy dance moves at the disco, overcome their fear of heights, build a fire to cook damper for afternoon tea and support each other when the tummy bug hit!

Our trip was definitely a memorable one! The students were great ambassodors for our school community demonstrating fantastic behaviour and care for each other during the trip. Max Storm, Shannan Stockton and Tom Denman were such wonderful helpers during the week.

I’m sure that all these campers enjoyed this special time and will remember their experiences at Lake Keepit 2016!
