LETTERS: Jobs and identities sent overseas

VOCAL: Lake Macquarie MP has started a petition to keep the Toronto registry open.I’VE been told that the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) office at Toronto and many other branches are closing down, with most staff to be retrenched.

I’ve also been told the branches that reopen are to be run by a skeleton staff with everything to be processed offshore, maybe in India or China.

I understand most big companies are doing this to save money, but now our own state government is giving Aussie jobs to other countries.

On top of all this there is an even bigger problem: Some guy in India who earns 25 cents an hour is going to have access to all our personal and sensitive details such as names, addresses, dates of birth, and car rego numbers.

This is information that you wouldn’t hand over to your best friend, let alone somebody in a third world country.

We already have so many scams operating these days, without giving out all this personal info overseas.

It’s very scary stuff and our government should be ashamed.
