The former Mortlake singer-songwriter (now based in Warrnambool)is part of the wave of talent pouring out of Emmanuel College’s VET music program.

Through that course, Lower has been part of recording sessions at Studio 52 in Melbourne, but for his own EP he headed to Tyler Crimmin’smuch more low-key studio in Terang with the aim of digging deeper into his songs and sounds.

“Tyler and I gave ourselves more time to flesh (the songs) out and get the right feel,” Lower said.

“I had a fair idea what I wanted to do, but Tyler’s production guidance, especially with harmonies and arrangements, was great.”

No singles or snippets from the EP have been released ahead of the launch, but a video of Lower performing a solo live version of the trackDeluded Eyes attracted over 30,500 views on Facebook.

Drummer Jayden Galbraith and Crimmin playonsome tracks, creating more of a band feel on three of the songs, although Lower said it’s still best described as “acoustic pop”.

“We tried out some tracks with strings and really raw vocals with no harmonies, and then there’sanother track with solos and drums and plenty of harmonies,” the 16-year-old said.

“I think with the EP I focused a lot on my songwriting, so I hope people can take something from what I have to say –it’s five songs of me expressing my views and feelingson various things,” he said, citing the likes of Lewis Watson, Ed Sheeran and Arctic Monkeys’Alex Turner as influences.

He will be supported by Jack Senior and Nancie Schipper on Saturday night.

Lower said he was excited that Sunday’s gig was all-ages as it allowed his peers to attend.

The songwriter is also playing at the all-ages Uncharted Soundslaunch at the Lighthouse Theatre on September 16.
