The Macarthur Crusaders Rugby Club completed their inaugural season with 11 wins and one loss from 12 matches to finish top of the 32-team competition ladder.

Club director Andrew Byrne said the success of the club was down to the hard work and dedication of people involved including club president Ese Auelua.

‘‘We attracted a really great group of players and from day one had a ‘no nonsense’ policy which stayed intact and really helped our club grow and establish itself in our inaugural season,’’ he said.

‘‘We took on a task which had very little outside support and a lot of the public and community thought it would fail, but we really knuckled down and got stuck in to the hard work on and off the field and all this hard work has seen success come towards our club thus far.’’

The Crusaders recorded an impressive 410 points scored and only 60 against as the team banded together over their collective desire to play rugby.

‘‘We achieved our feat together because we all developed our fitness, game play and skills together at training week in week out,’’ Byrne said.

‘‘Our team motto which we all lived by regardless of our opponent was ‘Play Hard, Play Fair’ because the spirit of the game deserves respect.’’

Byrne encouraged Macarthur-based rugby players to be involved in their positive club culture and help the club continue to achieve new feats in 2016.

‘‘We are looking forward to growing our club form a single senior team club to a two or three team club for the 2016 season, [and] we’re also looking into starting up the junior side of the club which will allow young school goers a choice of rugby clubs to play for,’’ he said.

‘‘Our main goal for next season is to grow and to keep a good relationship and image with the Macarthur sporting community.’’
