Praise for our unsung heroes

Homage was paid to Redland City Council officers who helped save the city during the 2013-14 Straddie fires, worked on a tornadodisaster exercise and kept our beaches and roads safe.

Mayor Karen Williams thanked the Disaster Planning and Operations team after council got three awards for its success in disaster management, for surf lifesaving and road maintenance.

Council received a Commissioner’s Certificate of Appreciation from Fire Chief Katarina Carrollfor its role in a QFES training program called Exercise Connect in June.

Redland council also receivedSurf Life Saving Queensland’s Lifesaving Excellence Awardfor keeping safe the city’s surf beachesand foreshores andupholding the vision for“zero preventable deaths and injuries”.

Cr Williams also thanked officers Dave Katavic and John Frew for their work on Stradbroke Island’sEast Coast Road and forhelping the Transport Department maintainthe city’sroads.
