The title winning Scone Thoroughbreds Under 18s with their supporters after winning the grand final on Sunday.

Scone had a team qualified in every grade, finishing the day with two wins.

Both of the successes happened in the early matches as the Sofie Casson coached League Tag girls overcame the Muswellbrook ladies 14 to 2.

The other victory was in the Under 18s where the Thoroughbreds defeated the Muswellbrook Rams 14 to 6.

In this match Scone raced to a 12 nil lead in the first half, their first try involved two of the form players of the final series – brilliant centre Lachlan Duwakin who thrilled the huge crowd with a dazzling side line run and big rampaging Connor Deasy who crossed shortly after posting Scone’s first points.

Thoroughbred fullback Lachlan Walmsley turned the four points into six with a good conversion.

Walmsley was targeted with several high kicks, one towering bomb three minutes from the break that he defused with ease and set off down field before being pulled down in good field position.

This allowed Travis Bateman to crash over and increase their lead to 12 nil after the conversion.

Muswellbrook’s huge forwards tried to run rough shod over the Scone pack, but the Blue and White defence held firm and it was not until nine minutes from the full time siren that the Rams finally cracked the Scone wall.

Their try gave them a sniff at 12 to 6 down and it was game on.

Walmsley put the match beyond Muswellbrook’s reach with a late penalty goal just before the bell and the final score of 14 to 6.

A delighted coach Darryl Rando loath to single out any one player, but just simply said defence, defence, defence.

He was so proud of every member of the squad as they turned up and played their hearts out, and they were rewarded with a well deserved win.

Coach Rando and manager Gary White would like to thank their sponsors, and theirtireless support staff, along with the parents who gave up endless hours not only on game day but during the year on training nights.

The Player of the Match went to Lachlan Walmsley.

Score – Scone 14 (C Deasy, T Bateman tries, L Walmsley three goals) defeated Muswellbrook 6.

Congratulation to Lachlan Walmsley, who at the Group 21 Player of the Year Awards held at Muswellbrook last week was awarded the Denny Gleeson Shield for the highest point scorer of the year in the Group 21 Under 18s.

Walmsley scored 98 points from 14 games, made up from 12 tries and 25 goals.
